In general, your credit score is a number that lets lenders know how much of a credit risk you are. The credit score is a number, usually between 300 and 850, that lets lenders know how well you are paying off your debts and how much of a credit risk you are.

In general, the higher your credit score, the better credit risk you make and the more likely you are to be given credit at great rates. Scores in the low 600s and below will often give you trouble in finding credit, while scores of 720 and above will generally give you the best interest rates out there. However, credit scores are a lot like GPAs or SAT scores from college days - while they give others a quick snapshot of how you are doing, they are interpreted by people in different ways. Some lenders put more emphasis on credit scores than others.

Some lenders will work with you if you have credit scores in the 600s, while others offer their best rates only to those creditors with very high scores indeed. Some lenders will look at your entire credit report while others will accept or reject your loan application based solely on your credit score.

The credit score is based on your credit report, which contains a history of your past debts and repayments. Credit bureaus use computers and mathematical calculations to arrive at a credit score from the information contained in your credit report.

Each credit bureau uses different methods to do this (which is why you will have different scores with different companies) but most credit bureaus use the FICO system. FICO is an acronym for the credit score calculating software offered by Fair Isaac Corporation company. This is by far the most used software since the Fair Isaac Corporation developed the credit score model used by many in the financial industry and is still considered one of the leaders in the field.

If you have always dreamed of retiring and going on a cruise, why are you waiting? Cruises are not just for retirees, they are also perfect for the family, no matter what age your children are!

Family cruises are designed specifically for relaxation for the parents and non-stop activities for kids. That means there are things going on until one am that your children can participate in, fully monitored by trained staff so you can hit the dance floor or the pool without having to worry about your children.

Cruises for families can be found through any major cruise line, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and, of course, Disney! Each one offers a unique experience for the kids while giving parents exactly what they want, time alone by the pool, full five course meals and relaxing spas.

For example, Disney, one of the most popular family cruises, offers live shows that kids love, as well as ongoing activities for all age groups. They even have a “nightclub” for teens where parents are banned, but the fun is supervised!

Carnival features the Camp Carnival cruises where activities are provided for 4 different age groups, from 2-15. Parties and pools for kids abound and everything is supervised. If parents want to go out to dinner in the evening, they can hire a babysitter to stay in the stateroom with the kids.

Norwegian Cruises has developed a family cruise called Kid’s Crew and they feature spas for parents, with treasure hunts, pajama parties, cookouts and sleepovers keeping the little ones busy. They also offer face painting, T-shirt decorating among many other activities. The whole family can get in on activities like sand castle competitions!

Royal Caribbean has the Adventure Ocean cruises for families where the entertainment for kids is actually educational at the same time. There are special play areas and plenty of opportunities for the whole family to have fun together, not just separated into groups.

Princess Cruises features special Love Boat cruises for kids. They have several ships for this program and each one offer different, but very fun activities. There is a special Teen Club that allows older children to dance the night away in a teen night club, participate in talent and karaoke shows and have pizza and movie parties.

For the most part, family-oriented cruises won’t break the bank. They run anywhere from $600 - $1,250, which is not a very high price, considering the amount of fun and everything included.

Finding the best family cruise for your family takes a bit of research. You need to figure out which activities your kids will enjoy the most, whether you want to spend most of your time on the actual ship, or if shore leaves will figure into the activity plan. It is a good idea to sit down with older children and some brochures and discuss which cruise they think would be best.

With a bit of planning, your family cruises can be a lot of fun and have you coming back again and again.

Do you have an iPod? This little music box has become so popular in the past couple of years that a whole pile of great iPod accessories have developed around the product. These accessories are just the thing for the person who has everything.

Even if you don’t own one yourself, you can certainly give iPod accessories as gifts! No matter what your budget, you are bound to find the perfect present for that special someone.

Practical iPod Accessories

The AV connection kit is a great way to connect your music quickly and easily to your home stereo. The kit contains everything you need to instantly pump music through the home sound system.

In-ear ear buds are a good way to go if you don’t have a lot of cash to spend, but want to upgrade a little. They allow you to listen to your music up close and personal, without bothering other people. Ear buds are also very comfortable in comparison to regular headphones.

Another good, useful accessory is the USB charger which lets iPod users charge their unit without being connected to a computer.

Luxury iPod Accessories

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to spiff your music box up a bit, why not check out these fine iPod accessories . . . not exactly necessary, but cool nonetheless!

To flaunt your iPod in style, consider buying an iSock, a lovely knit-style tube that fits over your iPod to keep it warm in the winter. The socks come in various bright colors, typical of Apple.

Prefer something a tad more inconspicuous, perhaps with a little class? There are elegant leather cases designed specifically for the machine and they are quite beautifully made.

Or how about a radio remote? This neat little wire remote lets you control your FM radio from across the room. It comes with earphones, too, on a shorter wire that fits the remote control.

A larger item, the Hi-Fi is basically a high-end home sound system with a universal dock for your iPod. This system lets you play your music with super high quality sound, no distortion at all!

You can also get the Universal Dock, a stand-alone accessory for charging your iPod. Not only does it charge, but you can use it to hold the device while you upload music from your computer, or even connect to your sound system. This accessory has its own accessory in the form of an Apple Remote, allowing for complete control at a distance.

Where to get iPod Accessories

You can buy add-ons to your iPod anywhere that iPods are sold. Your best bet for offline purchases is probably the store where you bought your iPod. Any computer store will probably have these as well.

Online, you can run a search for iPod Accessories and come up with a whole slew of websites selling them. Or make it easy on yourself, and go to the official iPod site!

For world travelers, there is nothing like the news in their own language to make them feel at home again, particularly if they can find a current affairs channel that is from their home country. This is easier done in some countries than in others. For example, American news channels broadcast all over the world, while a German station that is focused on news might not be quite as worldwide. To stay in touch with current affairs while traveling, here are a few ideas to keep you connected.

Current affairs differs from plain old news in that the news gives quick, rapid tidbits, while current affairs are more in depth and focus on the nitty gritty of the news and what is going on today. Most news channels, like CNN and FOX have a special program dedicated to this in depth investigation and choose the most relevant issues today to discuss and analyze on these shows. This is what many people feel really creates that bond with home, since the opinions shared are typical of the country in which you reside.

While traveling it can really be tough to find a good current affairs channel on the television, especially when not in a Westernized country where your options are broader. One way to get around this is to find a pub or bar that offers a television or two. During the day, most taverns are pretty empty and since they usually have satellite or cable TV, you can request a specific channel that you want to watch. Sit down, have a beer and a plate of food and they will probably be more than willing to let you watch your favorite home channel.

Another good idea if you have the budget is to check into a hotel that caters to business people. These hotels often host conferences and have people staying from around the world who are in need of information. By paying a little more, you can have a room with internet connection and plenty of TV channels to choose from. There is usually at least one US and one British current affairs channel that you will be able to access.

If TV is not your cup of tea, or you just can’t find one that shows your channel in your language, you can always stay abreast of current affairs by logging onto your favorite station’s website. There are even websites that specialize in current affair debates. You can either read the interesting information, or watch it on a video. This is probably the best way to go in terms of non-television options. You have the ability to choose where you want to look and when, no trying to time your schedule to the news channel’s schedule, something that can be very difficult in another time zone!

If you need to stay current on current affairs, it is possible, no matter where in the world you are. You just need access to some basic technology and you will be fine!
